Off to the Races!

Well, my first week of training for the Madison Half Marathon on May 27th is officially over.

I spent the month of January riding the stationary bike as planned, and I logged 71 miles with a total of 4:50 on the bike trying to get my legs ready to start running.

I'm following a training plan that my sister told me about from Runner's World online. I started on Monday, 2/5 and the plan only called for three 2-mile runs the first week. I came close and ran a total of 5 miles, but I was much slower than I should have been. I've got a lot of work to do before I "catch up" to the training plan, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

On my "off" days I rode the bike, putting on another 20 miles, and I took Saturday off.

This week's plan is the same as last week's except that I'm supposed to run 3 miles on Sunday. I'm going to focus on meeting the mileage goals this week although I am certain I won't meet the time goals. That's fairly consistent with my race plan anyway since I am focused on running the miles in whatever time it takes to finish.

Hey big brother! Keep up the good work. It sucks that teh weather has been so cold. Hard to get any runs in outside. Gotta love that treadmil. It's going to be an amazing day when we finish 13.1 miles!!! Bring it on baby!!!!!
