7 Day Break

I ran today for the first time since the marathon, but I forgot to charge my Garmin so I don't know how far I went or how long it took me. I had the usual aches and pains for the first mile, and then I felt great. I ran about 3 miles, taking the first mile slow and then running strong for the last two. I really felt great once I got warmed up, which doesn't surprise me, because I was feeling about 90% recovered last Wednesday, only 3 days after the race!

Here's a funny story for you. After losing 8 lbs during my taper, I ended up gaining 3 of them back by race day. That's not the funny part, though. After the race, I weighed almost exactly the same as I weighed before the race, so my hydration plan was nearly perfect. For some reason, though, I GAINED 11 POUNDS IN 48 HOURS after the race! What the hell? My body must have just decided to hold on to every ounce of fluid after the shock of running 26 miles. Don't worry, though, because I lost all 11 of those pounds by Friday! How's that for a yo-yo diet. Down 8 pounds in 3 weeks. Up 11 pounds in 48 hours, then down 11 pounds in 72 hours.

Very strange.

My experience was very similar. Gained 5 pounds after the race and lost all 5, 2 days later. I must say the trips to the bathroom too pee every 10 minutes may have something to so with the weightloss. I think our bodies held in everything they could post race because they were afraid we'd starve them!!

Sometimes it's nice to just run without knowing your pace :-) I should do that more often!

I'd totally freak out if I gained 11 pounds in 48 hours.

Any race photos?
