I have logged 26 miles on the treadmill in the last 7 days, and they have probably been the best 7 days of training I've ever had. With that in mind, I'm thinking I should probably document my routine, because it seems to be working right now.
First, the only changes I made for these last 3 runs have been (1) taking 4 ibuprofen tablets about 30 minutes before starting, and (2) switching to drinking Cytomax (pink lomonade) before and during my runs rather than Gatorade or Accelerade. My other consistent routines are to eat a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread about 30-60 minutes before starting and drinking a protein drink when I get home. On occasion, I'll eat sport beans while I run, two at a time once during each mile, but I haven't been doing that every time lately. I haven't stretched before or after any of my runs since 11/7/07 when I started training on the treadmill, and I'm starting to believe that's helping prevent the nagging injuries I've had in the past. We'll see what happens when I start running outside again.
So far, I've logged 185 miles on the treadmill since 11/7/07, and 165 miles since I "officially" started training for the marathon on 11/28/07. I also logged 60 miles this month, which is my second most miles in a month ever. The only time I've ever run more was in May of '07 when I ran the Madison Half Marathon.
I believe I have just over 12 weeks until the marathon. I still have a lot of work to do, but these last 7 days have really given me hope that I might actually be able to pull it off.
