Today was a BIG DAY. Not only did I run 18 miles, but I did it outside, besting my longest outdoor run ever by 5 miles! Don't get too excited yet. It was not a great run. The only thing I accomplished today is that I started and I finished 18 miles later. Because I sweat like a pig and I can only carry about 16 oz of fluids in my Fuel Belt, I broke the run up into two 9 mile loops and stopped at home for a stretch, a rest, a squirt, and a refill. It was VERY difficult to convince myself to go out and do another 9 after that, and the 2nd half was absolute HELL.
I walked a total of about 3 miles today, and two of them were in the last 7 miles, when I couldn't run more than about 3/4 of a mile without walking. Of course, it was VERY windy today, and at least 70% of the time the wind was in my face. It also doesn't help that I've logged nearly all of my treadmill miles on a 0% incline, so the hills are just killing me.
I did it, though. I started and I finished. I just wish it hadn't taken me 3 hours and 47 minutes, because my hopes of finishing the marathon in under 5 hours are starting to fade very fast. Oh well. One step at a time for the next 7 weeks. As long as I start the race and finish alive, I don't really care how long it takes me.
I really need to lose some weight, too. Dragging 195 pounds around for 18 miles is NOT what I dreamed about doing when I was a child.

Great workout! When I do multiple loop runs with a water stop, I hide a two liter bottle of soda in a bush about a 1/4 mile from my house. That way, the comforts of home do not tempt me to skip the second half of the run! Yet, if my water disappears for some reason, I'm not that far from home to get more water. In the summer, I run in 90 degree water, so it would be bad to be too far away from a water supply!
Happy workouts!
Sorry, I meant to say that the 2 liter bottle is actually filled with water!
You have reached huge milestones already! Be proud of yourself (I am proud of you) and stay focused on those long runs (said by someone that has tons of trouble staying focused!). YOU CAN DO THIS and you will. I'd also be willing to bet you'll do it in under 5 hours. You've got 7 weeks and lots of training miles to go. You'll get there.
P.S. The wind totally SUCKED this weekend!! I agree.
Nice run! I hope the mid-run squirt was AMAZING!
